Kadoo African Drummers coming to our school!

 WALT: Reflect on our experience

Today, at NBC we were lucky enough to have some Kadoo African drummers come to our school to teach us a special song from their country and let people have some turns on the drums! They also taught us some dances. I got to have a turn on one of the drums and it was so amazing, I was so excited and very grateful that I got picked!

They are from West Africa, which to be honest, is a long way for Christchurch! A fun fact about West Africa, the 14th-century king was the richest person in all history of Celebrity Net Worth site! (That's a lot of money!)

The atmosphere was very happy, joyful and full of sound! The people on the drums were amazing because they kept all the rythm on the same track.

Their songs were very unique and we were very lucky to be taught them! My favourite part was probably having a turn on the drums and being able to be doing some cool dances!

Here are some photos of some students having a turn on the drums! 👀

Going to the Dump, VERY EXCITING! 😮

WALT: Reflect on our Waste and how we use it.

On Friday the 21st of October Room 2 went to the Bromely Dump. We went there because our virtue for these 2 weeks is Stewardship and taking care of the environment. 3 parents came to help us:  Shelly, Sarah and Jackie. Our first activity was learning everything a proper compost needs

  • Green foods (they don't actually have to be green, it means to be fresh food scraps

  • Brown foods (They are dried up grass, or hay)

  • Micro Organisms (it is just dirt that helps with the compost and worms)

  • Water (to help everything come together)

We all got to hold a worm at one point, and a fun fact about them, they actually spell letters on you hand! But you should ALWAYS WET YOUR HAND because our hands are hot, and it could kill the worm because they breathe through their skin.

We all had a turn at different rotations, the first one was where you tore newspaper into streamers, and you had to dip them into a bucket and fluff them up for the worms. The next one was where you used a shovel or your hands too pick up some worms from dirt, or worm castings. If there were no worms you would put it to the side.

The last one was where you got into buddies and filled up your watering can. Your friend would put worm tea into and you would give it to the plants it was very fun.

Here is a photo!

Problems in our Environment, the new Covid!

WALT: The world is speaking to us

In Room 2 we have been talking about problems in our Environment, and Pope Benedict's quote, "The World is talking to us. Me and Dakota made a google drawing about 2 Environmental problems and what the world would be saying about it.

KWL On the Issue of our Environment

 WALT: Identify prior knowledge

We are learning about all the problem in our world, e.g: Wildfires and pollution. We are also learning about why it is happening, e.g: Deforestation is happening because we are cutting down tree's and lots of problems could happen if we don' stop soon.

We made a KWL {What I Know, What I think I know, and What I want to learn}
